Zainab's murderer files appeal against ATC's death sentence

Imran Ali,who was awarded death sentence by an anti-terrorism court (ATC) after finding him guilty of raping and killing seven-year-old Zainab has filed an appeal to the Lahore High Court against the verdict.
According to local media reports, Imran in his petition has claimed not to be guilty and that the ATC had made the verdict in haste.
On February 17, Imran was handed four counts of death sentence along with a fine, one life-term and a 7-year jail term. He also faces charges in the cases of at least seven other children out of which five were murdered. Imran had earlier confessed to all his crimes.

Imran had been taken into custody on January 23 when his DNA had matched the samples taken from Zainab’s body. His trial had been conducted on a regular basis the Central Jail, Kot Lakhpat.
Zainab was raped and murdered after being abducted on January 4. Her body was found at a garbage dump site, five days after she went missing.
