Published Updated

Tariq Kirmani has resigned as chairman and director of Pakistan Refinery Limited (PRL) on health grounds, effective October 9, 2026.

The listed refinery informed the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) in a filing on Monday.

“We would like to inform you that Tariq Kirmani (independent director) has resigned as chairman and director from the Board of Directors of Pakistan Refinery Limited on health grounds with effect from October 9, 2026,” read the notice.

According to information available on PRL’s website, Kirmani has over 50 years of corporate experience, both domestically and internationally.

After completing his Master’s degree in Business Administration, he started his career with a multinational oil company, Caltex, later Chevron Pakistan, in 1969 and worked for seven years in the United States (US), United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Australia in different senior management positions.

In 1991, he became the first Pakistani elected as a company director.

In 1999, he joined Pakistan State Oil (PSO) as deputy managing director and was appointed as the managing director and CEO in 2001.

In 2005, the Government of Pakistan appointed Kirmani as the chairman and CEO of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA). He served the airline for two years.
