IT, utilities stocks drag Sri Lankan shares lower

Sri Lankan shares closed lower on Thursday, dragged by IT and utilities stocks.

The CSE All-Share index settled 1.4% lower at 20,234.34 points.

Distilleries Company of Sri Lanka and Dialog Axiata were the biggest drag on the index, down 2.85% and 1.34%, respectively.

Trading volume on the index rose to 72.9 million shares from 60.4 million shares in the previous session.

The equity market’s turnover rose to 2.74 billion Sri Lankan rupees ($8.28 million) from 1.97 billion rupees in the previous session, according to exchange data.

Foreign investors were net sellers, offloading stocks worth 32 million rupees, while domestic investors were net buyers, purchasing shares worth 2.73 billion rupees, the data showed.
