KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon on Wednesday directed the authorities concerned to undertake round-the-clock work on the Yellow Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project to ensure its timely completion.
Memon issued the directives while chairing a meeting on the progress of the Yellow Line BRT project, which key components and ongoing works of the project.
Sharjeel directed all relevant departments and contractors to work in close coordination and adopt a unified strategy to accelerate construction. He said the Yellow Line BRT was a key component of Karachi’s public transport system and stressed that work should continue day and night to ensure its early completion.
He also ordered the authorities to expedite construction of the remaining portion of the Taj Haider Bridge and ensure visible progress on the project. The construction of depots, described as important components of the BRT system, should also be undertaken on a priority basis, he added.
Memon called for regular monitoring of every component of the project and stressed that construction speed must not come at the expense of quality. He said the Sindh government was pursuing several projects to develop a modern and integrated mass transit system in Karachi. The Yellow Line BRT, he said, was an important part of the government’s broader transport strategy aimed at meeting the growing mobility needs of the city’s expanding population.
He said the provincial government was taking all necessary measures to provide the people with safe, modern and quality public transport facilities.
