IT stocks drag Sri Lankan shares lower

Sri Lankan shares closed lower on Monday, dragged down by IT stocks.

The CSE All-Share index settled 0.81% lower at 20,644.26 points.

Serendib Hotels and Ambeon Holdings were the top percentage losers on the index, down 10.1% and 9.3%, respectively, on the day.

Trading volume on the index more than doubled to 67.6 million shares from 29.9 million shares in the previous session.

The equity market’s turnover jumped to 3.16 billion Sri Lankan rupees ($9.56 million) from 873.4 million rupees in the previous session, according to exchange data.

Foreign investors were net sellers, offloading stocks worth 145 million rupees, while domestic investors were net buyers, purchasing shares worth 3.13 billion rupees, the data showed.
