ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has welcomed the government’s decision to engage in joint political talks with the opposition, expressing hope that the negotiations would lead to an unconditional end to the opposition’s long march.

In an X post on Friday, Bilawal said he was pleased that the government had accepted the PPP’s proposal for political dialogue with the opposition to find political solutions to the country’s political issues.

“I am pleased that the government has accepted the PPP’s proposal to jointly hold political dialogue with the opposition for political solutions to political problems,” Bilawal said.

He linked the need for political engagement to what he described as a growing security challenge facing the country, saying terrorism, with the active support of neighbouring countries, had become a threat to Pakistan’s survival.

Bilawal expressed hope that the talks would conclude with the opposition announcing an unconditional withdrawal of its long march.

“I hope that at the conclusion of these negotiations, the opposition will announce unconditionally that it is ending its long march,” he said.

The PPP chairman called for national unity to confront terrorism and address threats emanating from neighbouring countries.

“We must, as a nation, unite to confront the menace of terrorism and deal with the threats arising from neighbouring countries,” he said.

Bilawal reiterated that the PPP remained committed to combating terrorism through all constitutional means.

“The Pakistan Peoples Party has remained, and will always remain, committed to combating terrorism through every possible constitutional means,” he said.
