LAHORE: Pakistan’s agriculture sector needs greater access to modern machinery and technology to improve productivity and strengthen food security, speakers said at the Pakistan Agriculture Coalition’s (PAC) Agri-Connections Conference & Expo 2026 held at the Lahore Expo Centre.
Al-Ghazi Tractors Limited (AGTL) highlighted the role of modern farm mechanisation in helping farmers improve productivity, manage rising input costs and respond to climate-related pressures. Speaking at the event, AGTL Chief Executive Officer Yasin Seker called for a practical, farmer-led approach to technology adoption.
Seker said Pakistan was facing growing pressure from rising food demand, low crop yields, increasing input costs, water scarcity, heat stress and irregular monsoons, making efficient use of farm resources increasingly important.
“Today farmers want productivity, uptime, efficient use of every input, and support across the entire life of the machine,” Seker said.
He highlighted telematics, precision guidance and automatic steering as technologies that could help improve machine efficiency, reduce overlapping field operations and enable more accurate use of seed, fertiliser and crop protection products.
Yasin Seker said new technologies should first demonstrate their economic value at farm level before being adopted on a wider scale. “Technology must follow value, not the other way round. If a solution cannot prove its worth on a farmer’s own field, it has no business being scaled,” he said. Participating in the panel “The Future of Technology in Agriculture” on the second day, Seker said Pakistan needed to move beyond conventional tractorisation towards an integrated system combining machinery, precision technology and digital tools.
He also pointed to custom hiring, machinery rental, leasing and mechanisation-as-a-service as potential models for improving access to modern equipment, particularly for small farmers who may not be able to afford individual ownership.
