KARACHI: Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi and Malaysian Consul-General Muhammad Yunus Ibrahim on Saturday agreed to strengthen bilateral trade, tourism and business ties, with Malaysia’s flag carrier set to launch flights to Karachi soon.

During a meeting at the Governor’s House, Hashmi called for increased exchanges of business and other delegations between Pakistan and Malaysia and invited Malaysian tourists to explore Pakistan’s diverse destinations, including Kashmir and the country’s northern areas.

The governor also proposed holding film festivals in both countries to promote greater understanding of their cultures and social values.

He highlighted opportunities for expanded cooperation in the surgical instruments sector, saying Pakistan-made instruments enjoy strong demand in international markets.

Yunus said Malaysia Airlines would soon begin operating flights to Karachi, which would help strengthen connectivity and facilitate business and tourism between the two countries.

He said promoting economic diplomacy was among Malaysia’s key priorities and expressed interest in boosting bilateral trade, particularly in the vegetable oil sector.

The Malaysian envoy also said Malaysia was keen to explore investment opportunities in Pakistan’s technology, electric vehicle and solar energy sectors.
