KARACHI: The Government of Japan has announced to provide Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) of PKR 15.5 million to a local NGO for the purchase of a new school bus for special students in Karachi.

The GGP grant contract was signed on Thursday at the Consulate-General of Japan in Karachi between the Consul General of Japan in Karachi, Hattori Masaru, and Habiba Habib, President of the Institute of Behavioral Psychology (IBP) School of Special Education in Karachi.

With this grant, the additional of a school bus at the IBP School of Special Education will enable an additional thirty (30) students to receive quality education, vocational training, and specialized therapeutic services. The school bus will provide safe and reliable door-to-door transportation for students with psychological and physical challenges, many of whom currently face significant barriers in accessing education due to lengthy travel arrangements.

Moreover, the families of these students will be able to pursue socio-economic opportunities during the school hours.

In his remarks at the signing ceremony, Consul General Hattori expressed his hope that the GGP assistance would generate substantial social benefits and contribute to long-term economic development through support for the IBP School of Special Education.

He said the Government of Japan will continue to provide flexible and timely support to local NGOs through grant assistance programs aimed at improving the social wellbeing of the people of Pakistan.
