Discos asked to install AMI meters at govt offices

ISLAMABAD: Secretary Power Division Dr Fakhar-e-Alam Irfan has directed all power Distribution Companies (Discos) to replace electricity meters installed at government offices with Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) meters within the stipulated deadline.
He issued these instructions at a meeting convened to review progress on the installation of AMI meters by Discos on all provincial and federal government-owned electricity connections.

The meeting was informed that all Discos across the country have commenced replacing existing meters at government premises in compliance with the Prime Minister’s directives.
The initiative is aimed at ensuring transparency in electricity billing and resolving longstanding reconciliation issues relating to government electricity payables.
It was decided that 90% of government electricity connections would be upgraded with AMI meters by the end of September 2026.
The Secretary Power Division directed all Disco chief executive officers to take all necessary measures to ensure 100 percent replacement of government electricity meters with AMI meters within the stipulated timeline.
He stressed the need for strict compliance with the deadlines and directed the DISCOs to accelerate the replacement process where required.
