ISLAMABAD: The technical fault in the international SMW-5 submarine cable has been fixed, restoring internet speed and connectivity across Pakistan, the Pakistan Telecommunica-tion Authority (PTA) said.

According to PTA officials, internet services are now continuing without interruption in all areas.

Users in Pakistan had faced slow internet speed and connectivity issues after a fault developed in the international SMW-5 submarine cable.

The PTA confirmed the fault and said it was working with relevant institutions for the early restoration of internet services.

PTA officials said that the submarine cable was not cut and the disruption was caused by a technical fault. The authority said the issue had affected internet speed in some areas, but the impact on users remained minimal.

During the disruption, internet traffic was diverted to alternative international links to reduce inconvenience for users.

The PTA said Trans World Associates and the SMW-5 Consortium worked together to identify the root cause of the fault and restore services.

A report has also been sought from the international company and Trans World regarding the incident.

After the technical fault was fixed, internet speed returned to normal across all areas.

PTA officials said the SMW-5 submarine cable is now fully operational, while internet services, speed and connectivity have been restored as usual across the country.

The PTA said it is continuously monitoring internet traffic and the overall connectivity situation.

The authority added that it remains in close contact with all concerned parties to ensure secure, reliable and uninterrupted telecom and broadband services across Pakistan.
