LAHORE: More than 600 Indian Sikh pilgrims have arrived in Pakistan to participate in commemorative events marking the martyrdom anniversary (Jor Mela) of the fifth Sikh Guru, Guru Arjan Dev Ji.
The pilgrims were warmly received at the Wagah Border by Punjab Minister for Minority Affairs and President of the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora.
The Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB), along with relevant authorities, made comprehensive arrangements for the visiting pilgrims. These include Langar (community kitchen) services, medical facilities, immigration facilitation, guidance support, transportation, and enhanced security measures to ensure a smooth and dignified visit.
Speaking on the occasion, Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora said the Government of Pakistan and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif are committed to promoting interfaith harmony, religious tolerance, and the protection of minority rights. He said Pakistan is a welcoming place for Sikh pilgrims, adding they are being provided a peaceful and secure environment to perform their religious duties at sacred sites. He noted that the arrival of pilgrims from India reflects goodwill, mutual respect, and people-to-people connectivity between the two countries. He also said the teachings of Guru Arjan Dev Ji continue to inspire humanity with messages of peace, tolerance, selfless service, and compassion.
