KARACHI: Founder and Chairman of Saylani Welfare International Trust, Maulana Bashir Ahmed Farooqi, has expressed grave concern over the renewed escalation in tensions between the United States and Iran, warning that the situation has taken a highly dangerous turn and could severely impact regional as well as global peace if not addressed with timely and prudent measures.
In a strongly worded statement, he termed it deeply unfortunate that the spectre of war is once again looming over the region. Reports of missile strikes attributed to Iran targeting the United Arab Emirates, coupled with increasingly harsh rhetoric and threats from the United States, signal a trajectory toward a potentially large-scale confrontation. He noted that statements suggesting the obliteration of a nation are alarming and pose a serious threat to international peace and stability.
Maulana Farooqi emphasised that at this critical juncture, the entire Muslim Ummah must rise above divisions and demonstrate unity. He cautioned that unilateral decision-making by Iran may not yield effective outcomes, stressing the need for collective consultation among Muslim leadership to formulate a coordinated and strategic response.
Highlighting the economic ramifications, he pointed out that global oil prices have already surged by approximately six percent following the recent developments, indicating the early impact of the crisis on the world economy.
He added that countries like Pakistan, already grappling with severe economic challenges, are particularly vulnerable, while other nations, including India, are also experiencing disruptions, especially in the energy sector.
