Sri Lankan shares soar on broad-based gains
- CSE All-Share index rose 4.2% to 21,917.60,
Sri Lankan shares closed higher on Wednesday, led by gains across multiple sectors, as the U.S. and Iran agreed to a ceasefire, which sparked a global rally.
The CSE All-Share index rose 4.2% to 21,917.60, marking its best single-day percentage jump since April 10, 2025.
HVA Foods and Lanka Ashok Leyland were the biggest percentage gainers on the CSE All-Share index, rising 24.6% and 21.8%, respectively.
Trading volume rose to 247.8 million shares from 48.7 million in the previous session.
The equity market’s turnover rose to 6.61 billion Sri Lankan rupees ($21 million), compared with 1.88 billion rupees in the previous session, according to exchange data.
Foreign investors were net sellers of shares worth 762.9 million rupees in the equity market, while domestic investors were net buyers of shares worth 6.46 billion rupees, data showed.
