KARACHI: Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab said on Friday the city’s situation had significantly improved following recent rains, crediting a proactive administrative response, while directing authorities to immediately resolve remaining issues.
Wahab visited several areas, including Shershah and Baldia Town in the Keamari district, to assess conditions and review rescue and rehabilitation efforts, officials said.
“Compared to the past, the situation is much better, and timely actions ensured that rescue operations were completed swiftly,” Wahab said, adding that authorities effectively managed the second spell of rains through advance planning.
He said only minor issues persisted across the city and instructed relevant departments to address them without delay.
The Mayor also praised the performance of municipal agencies, including the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Water Corporation and sanitation staff, saying their efforts helped minimise public hardship.
Wahab said he had toured multiple districts over the past two days to personally monitor the situation and respond to public complaints, vowing to ensure prompt redress where needed.
During a visit to Tariq Road and Nursery, he inspected a road collapse caused by rain and directed local authorities to complete repair work by Friday night.
He said civic bodies would continue to work closely to restore normalcy, adding that addressing citizens’ concerns remained his top priority.
