KARACHI: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Thursday formally handed over recovered assets worth Rs 2.265 billion to the Government of Sindh in a ceremony held at the Sindh Secretariat, Karachi.

Deputy Chairman NAB, Sohail Nasir, presided over the assets handing over ceremony and transferred a diverse portfolio of moveable and immovable properties including mango and lemon orchards, agricultural fields, pay orders, National Saving Certificates, and looted public money to Chief Secretary Sindh Asif Hyder Shah.

The ceremony was also attended by Prosecutor General NAB Syed Ihtesham Qadir Shah, Director General NAB Karachi Shakeel Ahmed Durrani (PSP), and senior officers from both NAB and the Government of Sindh.

The recovered assets stem from Reference No. 02/2023 State vs. Mushtaque Ahmed Shaikh and Others, currently pending before Accountability Court-I, Hyderabad. The case saw eight accused persons voluntarily opt for plea bargain under Section 25(b) of the National Accountability Ordinance (NAO) 1999, collectively agreeing to surrender assets amounting to Rs 901,820,227.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Chairman NAB Nasir highlighted that while the declared liability surrendered by the accused stood at over Rs 901 million, the current market value of the recovered properties and assets has been assessed at more than Rs 2.265 billion, underscoring the scale of the recovery.

The surrendered assets include agricultural lands spread across multiple districts of Sindh, comprising mango and lemon orchards, along with financial instruments such as pay orders and National Saving Certificates.

He emphasized that the recovery was the result of NAB’s sustained legal pursuit and its commitment to restoring state resources to the public. “This landmark recovery not only reinforces NAB’s commitment to accountability and transparency but also ensures that looted public funds and assets are restored for the benefit of the state and public at large,” he said.

Chief Secretary Sindh Asif Hyder Shah welcomed the development, praised NAB’s efforts, and pledged the provincial government’s full cooperation in continuing the fight against corruption.
