Escalating regional tensions have disrupted Pakistan’s fintech sector as SadaPay on Tuesday said its app had gone offline for all users due to infrastructure outages linked to recent drone strikes in the Gulf.

In an update shared on a social media platform, the fintech said that the app is currently unavailable for all users.

“Our infrastructure runs on Amazon Web Services (AWS) in Bahrain, which has been disrupted since the drone strikes on March 1st. Overnight, conditions in the affected AWS region worsened, causing a full app outage for our users,” it said.

SadaPay (Private) Limited is a private limited company in Pakistan that provides financial services, including a Mastercard debit card and a digital wallet.

The company said that, similar to other financial services across the Gulf and broader region, it is also dealing with the downstream consequences of physical damage to shared cloud infrastructure.

“This is not a SadaPay-specific failure, but it is our problem to solve for our users, and we are treating it with full urgency,” it said.

Iran denies talks with US after Trump postpones strikes on power grid

However, despite the outage, the company maintained that the customer’s money remains “safe and fully accounted for”. Moreover, debit cards, ATMs and POS payments remain functional.

“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience,” said the company.

The development comes as tensions in the Middle East remain high as Iran, the US and Israel continue to exchange missiles, causing large-scale infrastructure damage in the region.

Days ago, SadaPay acknowledged a system issue that led to incorrect deductions and negative balances in some customer accounts, apologising for the disruption and assuring users that all affected balances would be restored.

“Our users have reported seeing incorrect deductions and negative balances in their accounts. That’s on us - and we’re sorry,” said SadaPay in a message to customers back then.

“Rest assured, your money is safe,” it added.
