HYDERABAD: Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon stated that February 27 is a memorable day for the nation, commemorating the day in 2019 when Pakistan’s armed forces captured Indian pilot Abhinandan. He asserted that on this same day in 2026, the enemy, India, and its proxies have faced a historic defeat.
Speaking at a ceremony organized by the Hyderabad Union of Journalists for the distribution of health cards to journalists at the Hyderabad Press Club, the Senior Minister, who also holds the portfolios of Information, Transport, and Mass Transit, remarked that while attempts are being made to push Pakistan into another war, the enemy has suffered failure both historically and diplomatically. He claimed that India lacks the courage for direct confrontation and is therefore resorting to actions through proxy forces.
Minister Memon alleged that terrorism is being instigated in Pakistan, sometimes under the guise of the Afghan Taliban and at other times through elements like the BLA. He maintained that “Pakistan has given a crushing response to every aggression and that today, the enemy and its proxies have been humiliated.” He said that while Pakistan believes in peace and dialogue, this policy should not be mistaken for weakness, warning of a severe response to any hostile act.
Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon stated that Pakistan provided shelter and shared resources with Afghan brothers, but in return, faced issues like terrorism, arms, and drugs. He criticized the Afghan Taliban regime for its ingratitude and condemned its failure to prevent anti-Pakistan elements from operating. He stressed that the entire nation is united against terrorism and that this is a time for national solidarity, not political differences.
On media relations, the Senior Minister said the Pakistan Peoples Party has a consistent record of respecting the media, taking criticism constructively, and never imposing restrictions. He affirmed that the journalist community is close to the government’s heart and that efforts for their welfare will continue.
Discussing public health, Minister Memon highlighted the establishment of modern government hospitals across Sindh providing free, non-discriminatory treatment. He shared a personal anecdote of receiving treatment based purely on merit at Hyderabad’s NICVD following a heart attack three years ago. He noted that major medical facilities, including organ transplants, are freely available in Karachi and are also utilised by patients from other provinces.
Describing health as the most valuable asset, he linked it to the provision of health cards for journalists and pledged to continue efforts for their facilitation.
The Senior Minister, referring to Hyderabad as his home, assured that all possible measures are being taken for its development, including a development package for the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, whose effective implementation will be ensured. Concluding his address, he stated that a strong, healthy, and united nation alone can face every challenge, encapsulating the sentiment as “Where there is life, there is a world.”
During the ceremony, a total of 512 health insurance cards were distributed.
