RAWALPINDI: The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Rawalpindi on Tuesday issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Aleema Khan, sister of incarcerated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding chairman Imran Khan, for not appearing before the court in the case registered against her and others in connection with the November 26 protest.

ATC Judge Amjad Ali Shah, hearing the case, rejected Aleema Khan’s exemption plea and issued warrants to arrest her. During the hearing, Aleema Khan’s lawyer, Faisal Malik filed an exemption application, citing personal reasons for his client’s absence from the court proceedings.

Opposing the request, prosecutor Syed Zaheer Shah argued that Aleema Khan was deliberately attempting to obstruct the trial. He stated that witnesses, the investigating officer (IO), and other accused regularly appear before the court, while Aleema Khan has consistently failed to comply with court orders.

Agreeing with the prosecution’s arguments, the court rejected the exemption request and ordered the issuance of non-bailable arrest warrants.

The court also issued non-bailable arrest warrants for two sureties of Aleema Khan and directed the Station House Officer (SHO) Saddarabad to arrest and produce them before the court.

Additionally, the court issued a show cause notice to the Superintend of Police (SP) Rawal, seeking an explanation for the failure to execute Aleema Khan’s arrest warrants, and ordered immediate compliance.
