KARACHI: A high-level committee meeting was held on Monday to review in detail the ongoing and proposed KMC development projects and schemes under the Karachi Infrastructure Development Policy, with a focus on improving pace, quality, transparency and public utility of development works.

The committee was constituted on the directives of the Chief Minister Sindh. The meeting was chaired by Sindh Minister for Local Government, Housing and Town Planning Syed Nasir Hussain Shah. It was attended by Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab, Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi, Additional Chief Secretary Local Government Waseem Shamshad, Chairman Chief Minister Inspection Team, Bilal Ahmed Memon and other senior officers of the concerned departments.

It was decided that the high-level committee would directly supervise KMC projects, determine clear priorities and submit a comprehensive monthly progress report to the Chief Minister Sindh.

The discussions were held in line with the vision of PPP Chairman, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to provide immediate relief to the public through timely completion of development schemes.

Syed Nasir Hussain Shah said that all development projects would be completed within stipulated timelines and schemes would be executed on an end-to-end basis. The incomplete and delayed projects create public inconvenience and lead to escalation in costs which would not be tolerated, he cautioned.

The meeting also approved the inclusion of the Planning and Development Department’s representative in the committee to ensure effective coordination in planning and implementation. The priorities regarding the beautification of various major roads were discussed and the roads facing heavy traffic pressure were given preference.

The minister directed that all procedural requirements related to 26 major roads be completed at the earliest, emphasizing that swift decisions would be taken keeping public hardships in view and all development works would be carried out strictly on merit while fulfilling all legal requirements. The meeting concluded with a resolve to utilize all available resources for improvement of Karachi’s infrastructure, traffic flow and civic facilities.
