President Zardari highlights investment cooperation with Bahrain at EDB reception

President Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday underscored Pakistan’s commitment to expanding economic cooperation, investment partnerships and institutional linkages with the Kingdom of Bahrain while addressing a reception at the headquarters of Bahrain’s Economic Development Board (EDB).

The President expressed appreciation to King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa for the warm hospitality extended during his visit.

He also thanked the Bahraini monarch for the conferment of the Sheikh Issa Award, describing it as a reflection of the depth of bilateral ties and mutual respect between the two countries.

Commending the EDB for its strategic vision and institutional strength, President Zardari said Bahrain’s success in positioning itself as an open and investor-friendly economy offered valuable lessons amid a rapidly evolving global environment.

As Bahrain’s finance minister began briefing on economic development, the President made a light remark, gesturing towards the Manama skyline and noting that the progress was visible and needed little explanation.

He observed that the EDB plays a central role in shaping Bahrain’s economic strategy, attracting foreign investment and supporting diversification across key sectors through close coordination with government institutions and the private sector.

This approach, he said, has helped strengthen competitiveness, promote innovation and create a predictable environment for investors.

Highlighting Pakistan’s ongoing economic reforms, President Zardari said the country is pursuing stability, digital modernisation and investment-led growth.

He pointed to the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) as a streamlined platform for investors, with priority sectors including agriculture, information technology, energy, minerals, logistics and tourism.

He identified agriculture and food security, IT and digital services, renewable energy and logistics as promising areas for Pakistan-Bahrain collaboration, adding that Pakistan’s strategic geographic connectivity linking South Asia, Central Asia, China and the Middle East complements Bahrain’s financial expertise and regulatory framework.

The President also referred to regional security challenges and their impact on development, reaffirming Pakistan’s resolve to counter extremism, strengthen internal security and pursue peaceful relations with neighbours while safeguarding national interests.

President Zardari reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to protecting investment and fostering mutually beneficial partnerships, and thanked the Bahraini leadership and the EDB for their role in advancing bilateral economic cooperation.
