Customs seize smuggled goods worth Rs183.23mn

The Collectorate of Customs Enforcement Quetta seized large consignments of smuggled goods worth Rs183.23 million in multiple intelligence-based operations (IBOs).

In a statement released on Monday, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) said that the operations were conducted in Quetta and Mangochar, District Kalat, with the assistance of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and Frontier Corps (FC).

“The seized items include foreign-origin betel nuts, cigarettes, tyres, cloth, and computer servers.

The total tentative CIF value of the recovered smuggled goods has been estimated at Rs. 183.23 million,“ the board said.

These operations were carried out based on credible and actionable intelligence, reflecting the unwavering commitment of Customs Enforcement Quetta to curb smuggling and safeguard the national economy, added the press release.

“The timely support and effective coordination with law enforcement agencies in Balochistan played a pivotal role in the successful execution of these operations.

The FBR reiterates its resolve to continue strict enforcement actions against smuggling, illegal trade and corrupt practices to ensure compliance with the law and protection of national economic interests.“

On December 27, the Collectorate of Customs Enforcement Quetta seized contraband goods worth Rs317 million in multiple operations.

“The assessed value of the seized cigarettes is Rs200 million. The contraband was recovered following meticulous surveillance and examination in strict compliance with prescribed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs),” the FBR said.
