ISLAMABAD: The first super-moon of 2026, commonly known as the Wolf Moon, was witnessed in Pakistan on Saturday.

According to the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), this super-moon is part of a continuing series, with the first and second super-moons having occurred in October and December 2025, respectively. This celestial event coincides with the peak of the Quadrantid meteor shower, offering sky watchers a rare visual treat.

In Pakistan, the super-moon rose at 5:51 pm. The moon’s illumination will reach approximately 99.8 per cent and will remain visible on January 3 and 4.

Officials further stated that the distance between the Earth and the Moon during this event will be about 362,000km. As a result, the Moon will appear 6 to 7 per cent larger and nearly 10 per cent brighter than an average full moon. The next super-moon may be visible by the end of the year, in November 2026.
