LAHORE: The spread of polio persists after the presence of the polio virus has again been confirmed in the Lahore city’s sewage.

Despite campaigns launched to eliminate the poliovirus, risks of the spread of the disease exists, sources said, adding: “Samples of the sewage collected at the end of the preceding year, 2025, also tested positive for the virus.”

The polio virus was found present in the samples collected from Gulshan-e-Ravi and Outfall Road disposal stations, the sources said.

It may be noted that the district administration conducted a seven-day polio vaccination drive. The CEO Health claimed that all campaign objectives had been met, while WHO observers expressed satisfaction with the teams’ performance and noted significant improvement in the coverage of previously missed children.
