KARACHI: Gold and silver prices extended their downward trend on the first trading day of the new year on Thursday, after closing lower on the final day of the previous year, traders said.
The new year trading session closed gold rates lower by Rs2,400 to Rs454,562 per tola and Rs2,058 to Rs389,713 per 10 grams, All Pakistan Sarafa Gems and Jewellers Association said.
Global market carried forward the gold bullion losses to January 1 by USD24 to settle at USD4322 per ounce with silver value further declining by less than one dollar to USD71.60 per ounce, it quoted.
Similarly, international downtrend impacted the domestic silver prices as well, pulling down the rates by Ra83 and Rs71 to Rs7,635 per tola and Rs6,545 per 10 grams, respectively, the association added.
It is worth noting that the open market may trade gold and silver at different prices as compared to those officially established by the association.
