At least five cops were martyred on Tuesday after a police mobile came under attack in Gurguri area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Karak, Aaj News reported.

The personnel were on a routine patrol in the area when the incident took place.

The martyred policemen were identified as Constables Shahid Iqbal, Samiullah, Arif, Safdar and Muhammad Abrar.

A large police contingent arrived at the site, and an investigation was underway.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the firing and expressed deep sorrow and grief over the loss of precious lives.

The prime minister paid tribute to the sacrifices of the police force, stating that police personnel have always played a frontline role in the war against terrorism and have rendered unparalleled services to ensure peace and security in the country.

“Entire nation salutes the martyrs who laid down their lives in the line of duty,” the prime minister said, adding that their sacrifices would never be forgotten.

In September, three policemen, including a station house officer (SHO), were killed in a gun attack in Karak.

The incident took place in the Banda Daud Shah area when unidentified assailants opened fire on a police patrol.

Station House Officer Sarfraz Umar was among the dead.
