Bayer has been a part of Pakistan’s healthcare and agriculture landscape for over 60 years, contributing significantly to the economy and serving the people of Pakistan. The company operates two healthcare divisions – namely Pharmaceuticals and Consumer Health – providing quality prescription medicines to treat a variety of medical conditions, as well as non-prescription products for self-care and wellbeing. Bayer Pakistan also operates a Crop Science business which provides farmers across Pakistan with high quality, innovative seed and crop protection products.
Some recent news reports incorrectly claim that Bayer is among those multinational pharmaceutical companies that have exited Pakistan. In Bayer’s case, this news refers to a development that took place in 2023, wherein Bayer transferred selected assets from its healthcare business – including a pharmaceutical manufacturing plant based in Lahore – to a local company with a strong presence in Pakistan.
This development was in line with Bayer’s strategic intent to transform its pharmaceutical business globally to deliver long-term, sustainable business growth in the countries where it operates, including Pakistan.
In the two years since, Bayer Pakistan has continued to grow, with a strong focus on both the healthcare and agri sectors. Through its Pharmaceutical division, the company contributes positively to healthcare, including working with the Government of Pakistan to increase contraceptive access, and thereby increase the Contraceptive Prevalence Rate (CPR) of Pakistan, which is an important national priority with significant impact on current and future generations of Pakistanis.
On the agriculture front, Bayer remains a key player in the agri industry through its Crop Science division, not only providing products, but also engaging in extensive on-ground farmer education and awareness initiatives to build the capacity of Pakistan’s smallholder farmers and support the food security of the nation.
Bayer remains committed to creating greater value for customers, stakeholders and society as a whole, in line with the company’s global mission, Health for All, Hunger for None.
