KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Local Government, Housing and Town Planning, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, on Wednesday, said that PPP and its government will seriously engage in the discussions when MQM formally present its demands.
He made these remarks during an informal conversation with the media after holding talks with the lawyers.
He said that MQM’s stance regarding the creation of a new province was completely wrong and there will be no compromise. “The talk of new provinces is nothing but a publicity stunt.”
He said that if there was any genuinely empowered local government system in the country at present, it existed in Sindh. If MQM’s demand was directed towards the federal government, then such a system should be implemented across the entire country.
He also said that in recent days, a local government system has been introduced in Punjab. If MQM’s friends considered that system good, then it should be applied everywhere.
Shah said that after the last general elections, the PML-N needed the support of his party. At that time, there was a political crisis and no single party could form a government on its own. He said that if the PML-N no longer needed their support, then both the parties are free to do its own politics.
