KARACHI: Founder and Chairman of Saylani Welfare International Trust, Maulana Muhammad Bashir Farooq Qadri has expressed grave concern over the recently released 186-page IMF report highlighting widespread corruption at all levels in Pakistan.
He questioned why the government has failed to take concrete steps to address these systemic issues.
Responding to the IMF’s observation that “corruption is prevalent at every level in Pakistan and powerful groups have taken economic policy-making hostage,” Maulana Muhammad Bashir Farooq Qadri said that the time has come for the state to begin reforms from within. “These problems can only be resolved by first cleansing our own institutions,” he stressed.
Expressing concern over the key points raised in the report, he asked why authorities are not prioritizing corrective measures. “It is solely the government’s responsibility to fix these matters; no one else can do it for them,” he added.
Maulana Muhammad Bashir Farooq Qadri noted that, according to the report, ordinary citizens are compelled to pay bribes even for legitimate tasks. “In such an environment, the role of the judiciary becomes crucial,” he said. He urged the judiciary to rise against this injustice and announce that no court fee will be charged from any citizen who files a complaint against corruption. He further suggested that lawyers’ associations and bar councils should also declare that they will not charge fees from petitioners pursuing anti-corruption cases.
“When corrupt elements realize that both the judiciary and the public are watching closely, it will contribute significantly to reducing corruption,” he stated.
