TAIPEI: Taiwan stocks fell 0.11 percent on Tuesday, but LCD panel makers including AU Optronics gained on optimism that Sony would increase orders to Taiwan suppliers after it agreed to sell its stake in its LCD venture with Samsung.
The main TAIEX index closed 7.55 points lower at 7,085.03, with financial shares down 0.38 percent and smartphone maker HTC shedding 4.8 percent.
AU Optronics and bigger rival Chimei Innolux gained 0.37 percent and 1.18 percent, respectively.
The Taiwan dollar was unchanged at T$30.308.
Foreign investors were net buyers on Monday, bringing their total buying to T$23.5 billion this month.
