LAHORE: The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry has urged the government to remove the Maximum Demand Indicator (MDI) fixed charges for the industrial consumers of electricity.

In a statement, President of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry Kashif Anwar, Senior Vice President Chaudhry Zafar Mahmood and Vice President Adnan Khalid Butt said that a large number of LCCI members have complained that if the factory is running the bill has to be paid but even if the factory is closed or the production is at the lowest, the MDI fixed charges will have to be paid which is a sheer injustice.

The LCCI office-bearers said that cheap electricity is a must to strengthen the industrial base and to win the international market. They said that costly electricity or additional charges are no solution to the power sector problems. The government should address inefficiencies in the system.

“These inefficiencies are actually an unjust tax on honest power consumers.
