Bill Gates lauds Pak Army for polio campaign, managing COVID-19 pandemic

Microsoft Founder Bill Gates has acknowledged Pakistan’s efforts in managing the pandemic despite the current rise in the coronavirus cases
In a tweet, Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Major General Babar Iftikhar said that the Co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa had a telephonic conversation.
During their phone call, Gates lauded the Pakistan Army for supporting the national polio drive and ensuring proper reach and coverage of polio campaigns this year. The COAS replied that they will call it a success when no child is affected in Pakistan.
The army chief credited the grassroots workers including the mobile teams, Law Enforcement Agencies and health representatives for the national polio drive.
Both pledged to continue working together to make further progress in ending polio in Pakistan and improving the health of all children.
Gates also acknowledged Pakistan’s efforts in managing the pandemic and to safely 'conduct polio immunization campaigns and essential immunizations that have continued amid the pandemic', the DG ISPR said.
