KARACHI: The Karachi Port handled 309,674 tonnes of cargo comprising 241,361 tonnes of import cargo and 68,313 tonnes of export cargo including 9,970 loaded and empty containers during the last 48 hours ending at 0700 hours on Monday.

The total import cargos of 241,361 tonnes comprised of 112,232 tonnes of containerised cargo; 43,658 tonnes of bulk cargo; 2,639 tonnes of sugar; 20,916 tonnes of DAP; 31,957 tonnes of wheat and 29,959 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargos of 68,313 tonnes comprised of 50,009 tonnes of containerised cargo; 2,240 tonnes of loose bulk cement; 14,562 tonnes of clinkers and 1,500 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

As many as 9,970 containers comprising of 4,138 containers import and 5,832 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Monday.

The breakup of imported containers shows 834 of 20's and 1,521 of 40's loaded while nil of 20's and 136 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 976 of 20's and 201 of 40's loaded containers while 330 of 20's and 2,062 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were thirteen ships namely MOL Generosity, Actuaria, Pamba-1, MSC Pilar, Nordspring, Xin Qin Huang Dao, MT Quetta, Oriental Rose, Chemroute Sky, Senanur Cebi, Mohar, CL Lindy and Jin Bo carrying containers, oil tankers, fertilizer, cement and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.

There were nine vessels viz. Xin Qin Huang Dao, Conti Courage, OEL Jumeirah, YM Cosmos, Chemroute Sky, Antigoni-B, Argo-B, Pioneer Star and PS Valletta carrying containers, oil tanker, chemical and clinkers respectively currently at the berths.

There is one ship namely Conti Courage carrying containers expected to sail on Monday.

There are five vessels viz. Esperanza-N, MOL Globe, OEL Kedarnath, Mayssan and Nord Sirius carrying containers and wheat respectively due to arrive on Monday while three vessels viz. AS Sara, Shiling and Paris Express carrying containers respectively are expected to arrive on Tuesday.

PORT QASIM

A cargo volume of 182,358 tonnes comprising 158,266 tonnes of import cargo and 24,092 tonnes of export cargo including 3,682 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Friday.

The total import cargo of 158,266 tonnes includes 71,572 tonnes of coal; 12,284 tonnes of LNG; 12,860 tonnes of mogas; 4,000 tonnes of palm oil; 10,100 tonnes of soyabean; 6,170 tonnes of chemical; 3,525 tonnes of sugar; 1,021 tonnes of LPG and 34,827 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 24,092 tonnes includes 24,092 tonnes of containerised cargo.

As many as 3,101 containers comprising of 1,833 containers import and 1,268 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Monday.

There were six ships namely MOL Courage, MSC Pilar, Esperanza-N, Fratizis Star, BW Despina and Seri Balhaf carrying containers, coal, mogas and LNG respectively sailed out to sea on Monday morning, while two ships namely Epic Barmuda and Silver Eternic carrying LPG and palm oil respectively are expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of nine ships were occupied berths to load/offload containers, coal, sugar, soyabean, LPG and palm oil respectively at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

As many as fifteen vessels viz. Yasa Aysen, Asia Zircon-1, Eternity SW, Golden Denise, Gulf Moon, Zita Schulte, Gas Athena, Gas Amazon, Cool Explorer, Clear Ocean Maritz, Lia, Al-Salam-II, Arawana, Harizon and NCC Nafa carrying coal, chemical, LPG, LNG, gasoline, gas oil palm kernel and palm oil respectively were at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

There were five ships viz. MSC Channe, Maersk Brooklyn, Cool Explorer, Al-Salam-II and NCC Nafa carrying containers, LNG, gas oil and palm oil respectively expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Engro Elengy Terminal, FOTCO Oil Terminal and Liquid Cargo Terminal respectively on Monday.

There are two ships namely Maersk Brooklyn carrying containers due to arrive on Tuesday.
