SC warns to dismiss NEPRA, power division employees over failure to resolve loadshedding issue

(Karachi) The Supreme Court of Pakistan, while hearing the case against unannounced loadshedding in Sindh, has warned to dismiss all employees of NEPRA and power division if the matter is not resolved.

On Tuesday, Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Gulzar Ahmed remarked that there is no need for such employees in power division who cannot resolve public issues.

The CJP said that the federal and provincial governments have failed to resolve the matter. Justice Gulzar stated both the governments are doing nothing while the federation is not fulfilling its responsibility over the issue.

He stated that the whole nation is going through electricity crisis.

The CJP maintained, “There is no proper solution for power generation in Karachi, despite the fact that the city is the country’s economic hub. There is a serious lack of capacity in government.”

After hearing the arguments, the top court ordered NEPRA to submit a detailed report within four weeks.

Earlier, the Supreme Court expressed concern over unprecedented loadshedding in Karachi.

The court stated that the power division was required to ensure that there was proper coordination between all departments, and whatever needs to be done with regard to K-Electric, a coordinated decision should be taken by all relevant departments, agencies and companies.

It stated that the same should be executed by one department, in that, there should be one window operation with the KE. It further stated that KE should not be allowed to go about various departments of the government, or companies or agencies for achieving its objectives.
