Trump to make first in-person address to supporters since COVID-19 diagnosis today

A week after he tested positive for coronavirus, President Donald Trump plans his first steps toward resuming in-person election campaigning on Saturday where he will be addressing two thousand guests from a White House balcony.

The president's doctors have cleared him to hold public events, less than a month before the presidential election. On Friday evening, Trump said he was tested again for the virus but did not disclose the result. He further said he has stopped taking medications. “I feel really strong,” Trump said.

According to the White House, all attendees will be required to wear masks and will be given temperature checks in the event today. The president is expected to make remarks around a law and order, Reuters reported.

Responding to Trump’s decision to resume campaigning, his Democratic White House challenger Joe Biden said, "Good luck. I wouldn’t show up unless you have a mask and can distance."

Both contestants will campaign next week without having to prepare for a debate.On Monday, Trump plans a campaign rally in central Florida.

The debate between Trump and Biden scheduled for October 15 has been canceled after the president refused to take part in it.

The Commission on Presidential Debates in an emailed statement said: “It is now apparent there will be no debate on October 15, and the CPD will turn its attention to preparations for the final presidential debate scheduled for October 22.”
