KARACHI: Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has initiated inquiry against five officers of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) over allegations of billions of rupees embezzlement.

According to details, all five officials, who were summoned by FIA over allegations of billions of rupees embezzlement, were from customs group and were above BS 18. However, these officials did not respond to the FIA notices.

Consequently, FIA has approached the FBR, requesting to direct these accused officials to appear before the inquiry team at FIA Lahore along with relevant records.

As a result, FBR has now directed all these officials to appear before the inquiry team at FIA Lahore on the dates along with relevant records and documents. Sources said that rampant corruption was being done in the clearance of transhipment cargos and urged the FBR to take stern measures against the responsible persons in order to avoid such malpractices in future.
