LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Wednesday told the Lahore High Court that a reference against Speaker Punjab Assembly Speaker Ch Pervez Elahi about illegal appointments had been sent to chairman NAB for final approval while an inquiry into assets beyond means involving PML-Q President Ch Shujaat Hussain was in its final stage.
A division bench was hearing a petition of the Chaudhry brothers challenging 23-year-old inquiries against them by the NAB. The prosecutor told the court that the inquiry against the Chaudhry brothers and their family members was near completion. He said six more weeks would be required to conclude the investigation and filing the reference before the trial court. However, the bench allowed four-week time and directed the prosecutor to submit a progress report on the next hearing. In this reference, Prevez Elahi is accused of misuse of authority and making illegal appointments in the local government board during his stint as Chief Minister Punjab.
