KARACHI: Members of Pakistan Broadcasters Association (PBA) board met the Chairman Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra), here yesterday. The Meeting discussed various issues related to electronic media industry.
PBA Radio Members highlighted the issues being faced by the FM radio broadcasters in the country especially the problems associated with Renewal of FM Radio Licenses. Chairman PEMRA vowed to resolve the license renewal issue through a consultation process. A meeting between FM Radio Members of PBA and PEMRA officials was agreed upon and scheduled.
PBA members also pointed out that despite the fact that current cable distribution system has no capacity to carry more than 70 to 80 channels, PEMRA continues to issue new TV Licenses. PBA members emphasized the problems and risks associated with this practice and urged PEMRA to discontinue this immediately.
Chairman PEMRA apprised PBA of public concerns over the content being aired on some entertainment channels. PBA informed PEMRA that it will form a committee immediately to look into this and this committee will meet PEMRA soon to discuss the issues.-PR
