LAHORE: The Punjab government is granting subsidy of Rs 6.5 billion every month to provide flour on discounted rate to the general public. Punjab Minister for Trade and Industries Mian Aslam Iqbal stated this while talking to media here on Tuesday.

He said the provincial government had achieved the wheat procurement target whereas consignment of imported wheat was likely to reach very soon, therefore, there would be no shortage of wheat in the province. He said wheat was being provided to the flour mills in all the districts according to their requirement and added the flour mills receiving wheat on subsidized rate could not supply packing of 15-kilogram and 25-kilogram bag.

He further said that 20-kiogram flour bag was easily available at Rs 860 and 10-kilogram at Rs 430 across the province. The Minister said that an effective system had been evolved to monitor prices of essential items and meetings of task force for price control were held twice in a week.
