Sindh govt whitewashes sacred paintings on 12 centuries old Jain Temple during renovation
- Officials said that it had been restored keeping in view the archeological standards.
The Government of Sindh in its restoration drive of ancient sites has whitewashed the sacred paintings inside a 12 centuries old JainTemple at Nangar Parkar.
The temple had a pictorial story inside the dome which Sindh's Ministry of Culture and Tourism has now whitewashed. Following criticism, officials said that it had been restored keeping in view the archeological standards.
However, renowned Archaeologist and former UNESCO consultant Yasmin Larry said the basic principle of conservation and preservation is to minimize interference and not to change anything unnecessarily, BBC Urdu reported.
"If a rock is broken, it should remain there. If there is a crack or fissure, further cracks should be prevented," Larry said.

People of social media expressed their outrage saying that in order to restore the ancient site, the government has destroyed its historical status.
