KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has said that the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) maintaining its old tradition has awarded tickets for Senate election to its party workers.
He said this while talking to media at Provincial Election Commission of Pakistan, said a statement on Wednesday.
The chief minister led the PPP-backed candidates, their proposers and seconders for filing nomination papers for the Senate election.
He was accompanied by Chairman of Senate Raza Rabbani, Sindh PPP President Nisar Khuhro and others.
He said that the PPP has selected party candidates for the Senate election on merit and preference has been given to the party workers.
This shows the commitment of the party leadership towards its workers, he said, adding that the party has awarded senate tickets to Kirshna of Tharparkar and Anwer Lal Dean of Karachi and both belong to lower middle class of the PPP minority wing.
Replying to a question, Murad Ali Shah said that Members of Provincial Assembly (MPAs) are respected persons and they are representatives of the people of their respective constituencies.
Earlier, the chief minister proposed Mola Bux Chandio for Senate election while his seconder was provincial minister Mumtaz Jakhrani.
And, former Sindh chief minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah proposed Chairman of Senate Raza Rabbani.
It may be noted that 20 candidates of PPP have filed nomination papers for 12 Senate seats.
They include Kirshna Lal Kolhi, Quratul Ain Marri, Nida Khuhro, Humaira Alwani, Anwar Lal Dean, Anthoni Naveed, Dr.Sikandar Mendhro, Rukhsana Zubairi, Dr.Younis Soomro, Taj Haider, Mian Raza Rabbani, Mola Bux Chandio, Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, Mohammad Ali Shah Jamote, Imamuddin Shoukeen, Ayaz Maher, Barrister Murtaza wahab, Dost Ali Jessar, Javed Nayab Leghari and Qasim Soomro.
