The ninth annual two-day conference on infectious diseases, being organised by Infectious Diseases Society of Pakistan (IDSP), kicks off here at Liaquat National Hospital (LNH) on Friday. During the conference, IDSP President Dr Ejaz Khan in his address said there was a greater need to disseminate up-to-date information on current trends, epidemiology, diagnosis and management of infectious diseases in Pakistan.
"One of the problems is continued growth of microbial resistance as a result of our injudicious use and abuse of antibiotics, particularly the major growth of bacteria called "ESKAPE", he mentioned. He said that similar problems regarding spread, severity, resistance and novel methods related to TB, HIV, malaria, dengue, influenza, infection control.
The IDSP, which represents a wide range of clinicians of multiple disciplines as well as non-clinical basic science physicians and scientists, has invited all physicians, surgeons, trainee doctors, nurses and technicians to attend the conference, given their essential role in the management and prevention of infectious diseases. The representatives of various national health programmes such as TB, malaria, HIV and AIDS are participating in the conference.
