Non-payment of salaries: doctors, paramedic staff storm Civic Centre
Contractual doctors and paramedics of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, Qatar Hospital, Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases (KIHD) and other hospitals protesting against non-payment of their salaries and regularisation of services stormed into Civic Centre and ransacked and smashed windowpanes of offices and counters.
The doctors and paramedics boycotted their duties except emergency ward duties and staged protest demonstration in front of Civic Centre by blocking the main road for traffic. Later, the protesting doctors and paramedic forcibly entered in the building and smashed windowpanes of some counters, located at the ground floor.
Sources said that many scheduled surgeries had to postpone while lab tests could not be conducted at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital due to the strike and protest of doctors and paramedics. Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) has also supported the stance of the doctors. Several representatives of the association joined their protest and said that until the rightful demands of the medical staff were met, the protest demos would continue. Earlier, the doctors and paramedics of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital staged a protest demonstration on main Nazimabad Road. Some of them tried to commit self-immolation.
