At least five persons including a teenager lost their lives in road accidents in various parts of the metropolis, here on Thursday. According to police and rescuers, an oil tanker (TLG-156) hit Nasrullah, 42, son of Abdul Rehman and his son Meraj, 12, when they were standing near Khaludabad Police check-post in the limits of Shah Latif Police Station.
Both the father and son were killed on the spot, while two other people were injured. Police said the driver lost control over the steering wheel because of break failure that caused the accident. Following the incident, massive gridlock for hours was witnessed at National Highway. Later, police impounded the tanker and detained the responsible driver, Ashfaq, son of Allah Ditta. The bodies were transported to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for autopsy and later handed over to the heirs.
Police said the victims belonged to Memon Community, and were the residents of Memon Goth. Nasrullah was labour by profession while his son Meraj was a student of fifth standard. No case was registered till filing of this report. In another incident, a man, Shaukat Ali, son of Khamso Khan was crushed to death while crossing railway tracks in Drig Road area. Police said the victim was busy in talking on cell-phone while crossing the railway tracks and was hit by the engine of a local train. He lost his life on spot. They said the deceased was the resident of slum area of Malir Halt and hailed from Umer Goth, Mirpurkhas.
In yet another incident, two persons were killed, while three others injured when a boiler of a factory exploded in the limits of Ibrahim Hyderi Police Station. Police said four workers, Hazrat, 40, son of Younus, Saddam, 25, Amin, 27, and Adil, 35, sustained burn injures when a boiler of Younus Factory exploded accidentally. The injured were shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi where Hazrat and Saddam succumbed to thier injures. The body and injured were later transported to JPMC for medico-legal formalities. No case was registered till filing of this report.
