Federal Minister for Commerce, Makhdoom Amin Fahim said that a gems & jewellery centre will be set up in the region in collaboration with Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry to promote gem industry. The chamber is playing pivotal role for the economic uplift of the country and government will assist it in this regard.
He stated this while talking to media-men as chief guest during the launching ceremony of second 'Single Country Expo: Dhakka, Bangladesh', here on Thursday. Continuing his speech, Fahim said development of trading activities in the Saarc Region is a great achievement of RCCI and government applauds such steps for strengthening the national exchequer. He said government is in favour of boosting trade relations with Saarc states, including India and granting MFN status to the country is the recent example of this commitment. With this, government will provide level playing field to local business community to compete with Indian products in the international trade market. He reiterated that Ministry of Commerce will support RCCI in setting up gems & jewellery centre in the region.
President RCCI, Jawed Akhtar Bhatti said that the five-day second Single Country Expo 2012 will kick off from May 23-27 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. "70 companies and 200 trade delegations will participate in the exposition and more than 70 stalls would be set up there, aimed at promoting local goods in the country's trade market", he said. He furthered that RCCI is fully aware of the importance of promotion of trade activities in the Saarc region, adding that sharing of trade volume among the countries is around five percent, which is very low. Bhatti said, "Our utmost efforts are for enhancing business activities with the said states". He informed that RCCI is planning to organise 10 single-country expositions in six different countries including Saarc region this year to gear up pace of exports and strengthen national economy. He urged the government to facilitate business community in this regard.-PR
