Army is with the government: Prime Minister

Published Updated

Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that Drug Regulatory Authority and other issues would be resolved in the on-going negotiations with opposition on 20th Constitutional Amendment. He was talking to newsmen after the ground-breaking ceremony of Kurri Road Housing Scheme, Islamabad here on Thursday.
To a question that International Monetary Fund (IMF) in the latest report said that political influence of the army was still on the government, Gilani said, "this is their perception, whereas the government stance is that army is with the government."
To another question about delay in holding energy conference, he said it has been agreed during the Council of Common Interest (CCI) meeting that next energy moot would be held in Lahore. Gilani said that Pakistan People's Party (PPP) government would continue to provide 'Roti, Kapra aur Makan' (bread, cloth and houses) to the poor of the country.
He said that it gave him immense pleasure to perform the ground breaking of the Kurri Road Housing Scheme for senior civil servants under the Prime Minister's Housing Programme. He said that congratulated Faisal Saleh Hayat, Minister for Housing & Works, and the ministry for successfully undertaking the Kurri Road Housing project.
Gilani said that the promise was in line with the vision of great leaders Shaheed Zulifiqar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, who always supported the cause of the people of Pakistan. Pakistan People's Party was founded on the slogan of 'Rotti, Kapra aur Makan' and the present democratic government remained wedded to the implementation of this slogan, he added
The prime minister said that civil servants were the backbone of any system of governance. They play an important role in executing the policies of the government, besides giving their input for policy formulation, planning & implementation. "There is no denying of the fact that a satisfied state functionary will deliver to the best of his ability and beyond the call of his duty, but an unsatisfied worker will only be a liability on the state exchequer," he added.
