Leader of Businessmen Group (BMG) and former President of Karachi Chamber of Commerce, Industry (KCCI), Siraj Kassim Teli, advised the members of eight associations to wait till Monday for official confirmation about relaxation in the conditions of producing Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) of the unregistered buyers along with monthly returns of sales tax.
A meeting of eight trade bodies of the city was held at KCCI in which representatives of Pakistan Chemical and Dyes Merchant Association (PCDMA), Pakistan Yarn Merchant Association, Karachi Iron and Steel Merchants, Pakistan Tiles Imports, Chemists and Druggists Association, Pakistan Tea Association, Jodia Bbazaar Traders Association, Karachi Wholesale Grousers Association and other participated. Teli said that it has come to our knowledge that Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has relaxed this condition and added that no such notification has been received so for. He said that the condition imposed of collecting copy of CNIC is not practicable and FBR has no option but to withdraw it. However, he advised members of the associations to keep themselves prepared to agitate the issue with concern ministers and authorities in case it is not withdrawn.
Teli expressed fear that around 70 to 80 percent might not file monthly returns if this remains persisting. Former Vice-President KCCI, Haroon Agar that the condition of collecting CNIC copy is imposed only on commercial imports, small and medium size manufactures where the big manufactures and their distributors are exempted from this condition.
He was of the view that the government as and when formulate policies it should be uniform for every sector.
