The police authorities in Indian occupied Kashmir have admitted the presence of over four hundred unmarked graves in Baramulla district. The police said that they had completed the counting of unnamed graves in Baramulla finding 421 such graves in the district while counting in Kupwara and Bandipore districts is yet to be completed and the process is going on, Kashmir Media Service reported.
The documentation of unmarked graves by police authorities started after the Human Rights Commission of the occupied territory took cognisance of the report by International Peoples Tribunal on Kashmir that had discovered a large number of unmarked graves in the Kashmir Valley. After the exposure the documentation was started by the higher ups of the police and the respective SSPs of the districts were asked to carry out the survey and identify the unmarked graves in their jurisdictions.
According to a senior police official, they carried out the documentation of the graves in Uri, Bijhama, Sheeri, Pattan, Gulmarg and Boniyar areas of the Baramulla district. "Our investigating teams found a total number of 421 unidentified militants buried in the graves," he said. "The teams also found the graves of 523 identified militants in these areas," he claimed.
