Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has hailed Federal Minister for Petroleum Dr Asim Hussain's decision to provide uninterrupted CNG to public transport, which would provide relief to the masses. He further said that the decision would greatly help in providing quality and affordable transport facilities to people.
The chief minister was presiding over a high level meeting regarding provision of quality transport facilities to the people and Bus Rapid Transit projects at Chief Minister's Secretariat, here on Saturday. Member National Assembly Hanif Abbasi, Chairman Lahore Transport Company Kh. Ahmad Hassan, Members Provincial Assembly Mehr Ishtiaq Ahmad and Hafiz Mian Noman, Chairman Planning & Development, Secretaries of Finance, Transport and Communication departments and other concerned officers were also present.
Modern transport system has been launched from Lahore, which would also be introduced in Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Multan, Bahawalpur and Gujranwala whereas besides Lahore, projects of Bus Rapid Transport will also be started in Rawalpindi, Multan and Faisalabad.
He directed concerned divisional commissioner to evolve strategy in consultation with Lahore Transport Company (LTC) regarding plying of CNG buses in their respective divisions so that on arrival, CNG buses could immediately be plied. He directed divisional commissioner to complete the identification of suitable places for setting up of CNG stations so that CNG could be provided to public transport without any interruption.
Addressing the meeting the chief minister said that provision of quality transport facilities to the people was the top priority of the government and solid measures had been taken in this regard. He further said that the government had fulfilled the promise of providing quality transport facilities to the people in provincial metropolis and 575 more CNG buses were being imported and beside Lahore, these buses would also be plied in Faisalabad, Multan, Bahawalpur, Gujranwala and Rawalpindi.
