Academicians and professionals brainstormed alike and agreed upon a common strategy to pursue Research and Development activities in the coastal areas of Sindh at a Workshop on "Sustainable Development of Coastal Areas" in Karachi. This Workshop was organised by the Sindh Coal and Development Authority (SCDA), Government of Sindh and the Institute of Business Management (IoBM) at the latter's Management Excellence Centre (MEC), says an announcement of the IoBM Public Affairs Section.
Muhammad Haneef Pathan, Director General, Sindh Coastal Development Authority, Planning and Development Department, Government of Sindh, while highlighting SDCA's projects pertaining to fisheries, forests, plantations, mangroves and public health, said that SDCA would initiate workshops and programmes in such relevant areas as Coastal Management and Disaster Management for which the Sindh Government would extend full co-operation to IoBM, as he acknowledged this Institute's role in supporting the Sindh Government with professional expertise and assistance.
This Workshop included such papers from the Government of Sindh, Government of Pakistan, private sector, international organisations and IoBM as Man Made and Natural Disaster of Sindh's Coastal Areas by Nuzhat Khan; Key Concepts of Sustainable Development by Aftab Ahmed Abro; A brief History of Sustainable Development in the Context of Coastal Areas by Dr Syed Viqar Ali; Environmental problems of Marine and Coastal Areas and Remedial Measures by Professor Dr Akhlaq Ahmed; Sindh Coast: Sustainable Development of Living and Non-Living Resources by Dr Shahid Amjad; Corrosion of Coastal structures by Engr. M. Moinuddin Ali Khan; Impact of Ecosystem on Coastal Communities of Sindh by Rajabudin Gugo; Role of Mangroves in Development of Coastal Areas by Syed Ghulam Qadir Shah; Sustainable Development of Coastal Areas in Sindh with Special Reference to District Badin and Thatta by Dr Shahida Wizarat.
Earlier Talib Karim, Rector, IoBM welcomed the guests, introduced the Institute and said that IoBM has such state-of-the-art facilities as the Management Excellence Center (MEC) and that this Institute provides such expertise and assistance where Seminars, Workshops and Programmes are feasible and practical for stakeholders in the private and public sector. Besides Business Management and allied disciplines he talked about the introduction of such Engineering Programmes as Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering, Electronics Engineering and Computer Engineering and such contemporary disciplines at IoBM, as Industrial Management, Health and Hospital Management, Environment and Energy Management and others. At the conclusion of the programme certificates were distributed by Muhammad Haneef Pathan, DG, SCDA and Shahjehan Karim, President IoBM.-PR
